This special June holiday is a fine excuse to hit a happy hour make a toast to this fine, if not funny, June holiday.
Martini cocktails are served up in as many flavors and combos as you can think of. The original martini, made with gin and vermouth – has given way to countless concoctions of libations calling themselves martini.
James Bond traditionally asked for his vodka martini to be shaken, not stirred.

A martini is easy to spot as this drink usually is accompanied by a twist of lime or green olives. Many places will serve an olive martini with a toothpick full of olives, which makes it a drink and a snack.
Just as many things, there has been nothing short of a martini revolution. The Prohibition of the 1920s is credited with the rise of the martini and while the martini’s popularity fell away for a few decades, the drink is back and better than ever. Many establishments even have a separate martini menu. And the onset of flavored liquers that taste like everything from bananas to ginger to acai to pear to cucumber, you can pretty much find a martini to satisfy any tastebud.
Matini cocktails are easy to spot, too, because of the infamous martini glass they are served in. Not the most practical drinkware ever invented, but they sure look nice sitting on a tabletop or bar. The glass has a stem with a cone-shaped bowl. When, like most martinis, they are poured to the rim, lifting it up for the first sip takes a bit of skill and finesse. Most folks opt to lean down to take the first sip versus trying to lift the glass to the mouth. The risk for spillage with a martini is great. But the desired effect is that the aroma of the drink is in full bloom under the drinkers nose.
