Today marks the 30th of anniversary of the day John Lennon was gunned down in front of his apartment building, the Dakota, on the corner of 72nd and Central Park West in New York City. He was only 40 years old when he was killed. Shortly after his death the part of Central Park known to be John Lennon’s favorite was named ‘Strawberry Fields’ and became a memorial for John Lennon.
Strawberry Fields is located just inside the entrance to Central Park at 72nd street – only steps away from where John Lennon lived. On almost any day of the week you will find tourists and John Lennon fans standing around the “Imagine” mosaic circle – laying down flowers, snapping pictures or just sitting on the nearby benches reflecting.
“Imagine all the people living life in peace…”
